BINGARA GORGE COMPLETES MAINS UPGRADE

14 October 2010

In a win-win for the residents of Wilton, Sydney Water, with the assistance of Bingara Gorge, has completed the second stage of the trunk mains upgrade, more than doubling its previous capacity. The first stage of the upgrade, completed in 2008, involved 1.8km of underground pipes and the second stage, 1.2km.

Bingara Gorge Project Director, Paul Gerlach, said the mains upgrade represented a significant benefit for the entire Wilton community.

“Flow and water pressure have been a problem here for many years,” said Mr Gerlach. “As part of our commitment to providing broad community benefit through our development, we’ve been able to bring a small but significant improvement to the quality of life for hundreds of people.

“We already have about 80 people living at Bingara Gorge but every month the population increases. With 3500 residents expected by around 2020 the old infrastructure was simply not up to the task of meeting that demand.”

Sydney Water is currently working on mains upgrades throughout the region and worked closely with Bingara Gorge to deliver this vital new piece of infrastructure.

Bingara Gorge is a Housing Industry Association GreenSmart Advanced Estate and has in place an Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy which will reduce potable water use by 50 per cent – exceeding the government’s environmental targets. The recycling and reuse of waste water will see the community save more than 240 megalitres of water each year – equivalent to nearly 100 Olympic swimming pools.

The 18-hole championship golf course, which forms the centrepiece of the community, will be irrigated using recycled and storm water.

Bingara Gorge is a Delfin Lend Lease masterplanned community with 1165 residential lots spread over 450 hectares. Delfin Lend Lease is Australia’s leading developer of master-planned communities with more than 25 projects across the country.
