EVENTS
Christmas came early to Bingara Gorge as more than 1500 people gathered on a balmy Saturday evening for a date with Santa and a host of fun family activities including a Community Fair, Live Band (Wildcatz), Face Painting, Free Ice Cream, Free Popcorn, Petting Zoo, Twilight Cinema and Fireworks.
There were plenty of reasons for good cheer with five lucky visitors going home $1,000 richer with cash prizes drawn throughout the afternoon and night.
But the biggest winners on the day were the hundreds of children who delighted in Santa’s arrival on a fire truck with his elves and the opportunity to get up close with a donkey, reindeers, ducks, goats, rabbits, chickens and lambs in the patting zoo.
As night fell, fireworks lit up the sky over Bingara Gorge accompanied by a medley of music. And the crowds, drawn from all over Sydney, made the most of the opportunity to enjoy a little slice of Bingara Gorge heaven, spreading out the rugs for a picnic under the stars and a twilight viewing of Polar Express.
The Christmas lit homes of Bingara Gorge residents, who had participated in the ‘Brighten Up Bingara Gorge’ competition, provided a magical backdrop to a very special day.
Bingara Gorge Project Director Paul Gerlach said the Christmas celebrations had been a spectacular success, showcasing the community spirit of Bingara Gorge.
“This was without doubt the highlight event in the life of Bingara Gorge,” said Mr Gerlach. “We’ve had many major events in the past 12 months – the official launch of golf construction with the designer Graham Marsh in attendance and the opening of Wilton Public School - but there’s nothing like Santa to draw a crowd.
“The residents added so much to the festive air, decorating their homes with Christmas lights and putting on community market stalls. Even our young school students played their part, making fairy floss to raise funds for the school.
“Special nights such as this allow you to see Bingara Gorge through the eyes of others – as a truly wonderful place to live, amongst good people in beautiful surroundings. There were many who left late on Saturday night wishing that they too could call Bingara Gorge home.”
